The ridiculously late spring game report
Hello CuseOrange readers. This is Alex, formerly of Superman Wears Rob Long Underoos. I’ve now joined the staff here. The two SWRLU blogs was making things confusing, plus I don’t really have the time to keep up a consistent stream of articles on my own, so this’ll be a good fit. Cool? Cool.
So I know the spring football game was about a month ago, and everyone’s pretty much forgotten about it. I just found some pictures on my phone from the game, though, so I figured I’d share them with y’all.
The business side of SUAthletics™ once again reared its head. In each section of the dome there was a giant price tag letting you know how much season tickets were in that area. It’s hard to see in the thumbnail, but click on the picture for a better look. The famous $100 seats made an appearance. I also never realized how big the student section is, since I’ve never seen it anywhere close to full. Did you know it goes all the way through the third tier for football games, too? Me neither.
Of course, advertising season tickets at the spring game is like telling G-Rob how to ruin a football program. You’re just preaching to the choir. Only the most die-hard SU fans were there, but it was a pretty good turnout. Chalk it up to everyone being intrigued by this new Marrone fella.
I got to sign that drum head, welcoming Coach Marrone back to SU. Being the band nerd that I am, I was thrilled that Marrone brought the team over to the band at the end of the scrimmage to sing the alma mater and fight song. Most of the players were actually singing along! I would have loved to be at the practice when they took an hour for choral rehearsal. Apparently the football team is supposed to be singing the alma mater at the end of every game this season, so we’ll see f that pans out. This attention to tradition is something that has been noticably lacking from the athletic program at SU, and I’m happy the Doug seems to be bringing it back. Everyone applauded Greg Robinson last year for stopping an interview for the Notre Dame alma mater (and rightly so), but I’m glad that someone remembered we have one of those, too.
All in all, the spring game did what it was supposed to do. It got me excited for the upcoming season. I believe in Harvey Dent Doug Marrone.

I second the welcome and I welcome the help. Most of the blogging here is done by a bunch of moonlighters (I include myself in that assessment). Great photos too, thanks for sharing.

Glad to have you on board! I can probably be characterized by the moonlighter description as well. I wish I had more free time to write since graduating from SU…I’ve found it harder and harder to drink till 2am on Tuesdays and be in good shape for work 6 hours later.
