June Recruiting look in

I thought it was time to take a peek at the recruiting landscape and see how Syracuse and their Big East brethren are navigating the recruiting waters for the football class of 2010.  Many prospects are camping around now and we may get a commit or offers as a result.

Of course we will start with our Orangemen.  (I think I will continue to reference our boys as the Orangemen in hopes that Doug Marrone will add this to his binder of things to save for a rainy day with the AD).  Thus far the Cuse has pulled in 3 recruits. Scout has given  2 of them 3 stars, with LB Myles Davis the highest rated at his position.  Rivals has not ranked any of these players.  Macky MacPherson is the latest signee back on April 23rd.  Check out John Kinder here:

Cincinnati is next on the list.  They have parlayed their Orange Bowl appearance with a league best 11 recruits committed so far.  Mainly they have solidified the southern Ohio area.  They have one 4 star and two 3 stars per scout.  Rivals has 1 one four star and three 3 stars.  TE Alex Smith is the top pick at his position and is also the latest signee for the Bearcats

Connecticut has yet to receive a verbal commitment!  If this was Syracuse instead of them you would hear the howls from the Orange faithful.  It is a tad surprising given the high NFL draft picks out of Husky Nation this past year.  You’d think that would be a nice selling point to recruits.

Louisville has scored 5 commits per Rivals and 4 commits per Scout (Scout is missing DT Randy Salmon, a previous commit to the Cards who went the Juco route).    Only one player is listed as a 3 star prospect and that is Harris Blivin a C/DT prospect.  The Cards latest commit came on June 14th, CB Jordan Paschal.

Pittsburgh has managed to corral 3 commitments thus far.  I believe their biggest issue is the fact that Penn St has gone in their back yard and snatched at least 5 potential recruits from the WPIAL including the son of the Pitt tennis coach.  As it is they have managed one 4 star and 2 3 stars (Scout).  Rivals has rated just two as 3 stars.  Scout 4 star DT Aaron Donald is unrated at Rivals.  Goes to show you how these two services behave and why chasing stars is a futile yet necessary evil for us fans.  S Jeff Knox was their latest signee on the 14th of June.

Rutgers has pulled down just two recruits.  Betim Bujari is the lone rated prospect at 3 stars on both services.  JT Tartacoff was the last signeee in April.

Next to last is South Florida.  Like Rutgers, they have signed just two recruits so far.  Tiger Powell, RB, and QB Brion Carnes are both 3 stars on Scout.  Rivals has just Powell rated at 3 stars.  Powell’s commitment was in March.

West Virginia rounds out our Big East recruitment peek.  They have scored 9 commits per Rivals and 8 per Scout, deviating with WR Fred Pickett who states he hasn’t commited yet.   It’s a pretty nice class so far in Scout’s eyes with two 4 stars and six 3 stars.  QB Jeremy Johnson is the 9th rated player at his position and the highest rated player in this class.  QB Barry Brunetti is the latest signee, committing on June 16th.

So there you have it.  In terms of numbers Syracuse is ahead of 3 BE schools and tied with another in total recruit count.  Of course they are lagging behind the top two teams in Cincy and WV, but overall they are with their peers as far as volume is concerned.  I will try and check in on a monthly basis to see where things stand across the conference or whenever we ring the register with a new recruit.  All for now…
