Another Game, Another Blowout

December 1st, 2009 by Brian G.

Will this ever get old? SU went to town on another hapless New York team Monday night, waxing Colgate 92-58 in front of a crowd of 18,457 at the Dome. You might say it was business as usual in another Orange blowout, but several things stood out in this one:

1. Wes Johnson threw down two authoritative alley-oops, the latter being of the one-handed tomahawk variety.

2. Johnson also went 3-4 from three, nudging his percentage to an astounding 55.8%.

3. Andy Rautins bumped his 3-pt percentage north of 50% with a 3-5 night, and added four steals. He leads the country in that category with 28 thefts.

4. As a team, SU had 35 assists on 39 made baskets.

5. Ten players tallied at least ten minutes of game action – quite the departure from recent Boeheim teams, even against bottom-feeders like Colgate.

6. The team cleaned up on the glass as expected, outrebounding Colgate 38-28.

Last, but certainly not least:

7. Mookie Jones posted ten points and was not the least bit tentative in his shot selection. He had a couple nice assists and a few steals as well, plus four rebounds (one more than AO). He’s starting to position himself for some meaningful playing time in case Andy Rautins ever decides to cool off.

Cuse’s next game is Saturday night against Maine – something of a final tune-up before going to “neutral” Tampa to face the Florida Gators. On a related note, to those of you planning to attend, the SU Sport Management Club is holding a silent auction in the backcourt area throughout the game, benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York. With over 200 items ranging from sports memorabilia to unique experiences being up for bid, it’s a great way to get some holiday shopping out of the way while supporting a very worthy cause and taking in a game. Arrive early (gates open at 5:00) or drop by during halftime.
